ou topos

As much as I’m resisting the urge to post until after new years day, I can’t help how addictive it is. It’s made worse because of my restless nature. Even led me to start another blog on Opera.

An anonymous comment was posted here recently. If I were a bigger person, I’d take it and let go. I’m just tall. So, here it is.

The comment made me think about some things. This anonymous person made an assumption that I was a Scrooge. I have no idea why. Maybe from the tone of my previous posts. Obviously not from the work that I do. I shudder to think.

My faith in humanity is all but disappeared. I only question the society of today. I do believe in an inherent good that dwells deep inside our core. But what is it doing down there? Come out please.

I’ve done a lot of good this year. Because it isn’t made public doesn’t mean it ain’t there. Some charities prefer to remain in the background.

I don’t ask for you to accept me for what I do. I ask for acceptance for who I am. (I didn’t murder anyone but I’m told my looks can kill). And who I am will always question and challenge.

But we live in a today where most people want to be judged for what they do and who they know. Who cares if you think you’re big time? I only want to know who you are. The ‘celebrity’ is secondary.

However, the anonymous person said that I dispelled her/his initial impression of who they thought I was all because I made a simple gesture of posting a Christmas tree. If I didn’t post it, would it have relegated me back to the dungeon of superficiality? Think what you wish. Bah Humbug indeed.

And there it is, my faith in humanity. No matter how trivial and silly it may be, we live for the moment when people remove the blinkers. The moment arrives when it does (can you tell I’ve just watched the Matrix Trilogy again?).

There is so much more to the universe. The theory that animals and insects will outlive the human race is frighteningly true. In our comfort, we will never evolve and adapt. But in our time here, we can make it a little easier for those who want to make a difference.

I believe in the spirit of Christmas and always will. Most importantly, I believe that one day, the questions will end.

Today, before the rain came, I put my jogging shoes on, took the dogs out for a run and, at the end of it, had enough breath to look up at the evening sky. It was a beautiful hour.

Thank you. May all your corners be lit one day.

(and just so I keep my promise of not blogging till 2006, I'll do it at the other one.)

That was some fiesty reaction to a simple comment ! For a moment i could almost feel the dagger from one who professed not to have killed except with his looks. :) You were 'dead'right on one thing....it was made from reading yr previous postings and the underlying tone in them, and certainly not from wahtever work you do or have done. I stumbled upon yr site and found u an interesting person, albeit a bit complex and certainly very sensitive.....but Scrooge? Nah, u have taken that in the wrong light. The Christmas Carols was not all about being scrooge-y or miserly. It was certainly about being able to remove blinkers, and not just those on others.....more importantly one's own....now THAT would be a moment to live for indeed, Sir .

I accept u for who u are...a blogger who has put his site right out there for EVERYONE to read and the 'Comment' button i guess is for exactly what it says...Comments.If I had made u squirm with discomfort at that humbug of a comment, I do apologise.

May i wish u a Merry Christmas...and may more than one corner of yr life be lit...dont hold back on the candles, 'Scrooge'. (sorry couldnt help that!) :P

Dearest Chiuchowmui,

The post wasn't targeted at you. I do apologize if it came across that way. I write this blog because I question the people that surround us and your comment only reinforced the fact that some of us still live our lives the 'Hallmark/Hollywood' way.

I appreciate that you gave me the benefit of the doubt. It's seldom that happens.

As for comments, that's just what they are. Comments made in reaction to something. I thank you for yours because you have been the only one to challenge (for lack of a better word) my thoughts. It's very refreshing. You made your point. I wish others did too.

So far, I have one more dark corner. I have the match. Just looking for a candle.

Hope to see more of you. have a great year ahead. And if you ever see me on the street, please do not hesitate to come and say hello.

Until then. Godbless.

and I don't mind being labeled a 'Scrooge'... he had a masssive turnaround !

and forgot to mention that your comment brought a smile to my grumpy-assed face. ;)

Edwin, would like to take a 'crack' at what a "grumpy-assed" face looks like but u may find such tongue-in-cheek comments a bit constipating and not so funny ! Still i had a bit of a giggle with the mental visual it presented.

As for thinking that the latest posting was targeted at me...dang right i felt that way !! hahaha...was not hard to feel the sting in between those cleverly worded lines! Much as i hate to say it, my dear, yr philosophical way of presenting yr thoughts sometimes do take readers like me thru a maze too complex to complete, and some may even give up from mental fatigue. (Is this what u mean by "madness" in yr profile?) I plodded on however, hoping that by re-reading, I will be able to harvest something profound and also convince myself that i surely cannot be so out of touch with "the ways of the young" ! (in case u r thinking what this old bag is on about,no, I am not THAT ancient!)However i put my ineptitude down to the fact that i dont know u at all, i dont know what u do for a living, and i dont know what your life is or has been like. Not that any of it matters. As far as yr readers are concerned, you are someone who blogs his thoughts, and we derive either pleasure or pain from reading them...and if we are moved enough to respond by way of comments, then i think in a small way, u have managed to touch someone's life. ( did i say u were philosophical? ;P )

Whatever that dark corner it is that u wish to light, i hope u find the candle one day. More importantly, just dont run out of matches.

As for saying Hello should i see u in the street, that will be near nigh impossible given the fact that i dont live in Malaysia anymore. However thanks for extending the warmth of ,dare i say it, friendship. I accept.

that's cheating... heheheh! but who could resist blogging, really. it's an outlet for everything you couldn't say out loud.

merry christmas, don't let the comments bring you down. they just don't know you better (neither do I, but you sound like a nice person ;) )

...perhaps u were right abt people with blinkers afterall, Edwin...how to know another person "better" when one's banished to being a "bringer-down" at the press of a Comment button? Man, doncha just hate lables? :P But I have itchy fingers that love to press buttons.

pressing buttons is a gift that many of us forget we have. and you, my dear ccm, realize you can do it whenever you wish. good on ya! acceptance accepted. where are you now anyway?

I can go into the nitty gritty of the difference between 'pressing' buttons and 'pushin' buttons, Edwin, but tonite is a hot summer's night and i am too beat! Sorry May if I bared my claws for a sec, but living in the land of vegemite sandwiches has kinda made me a tad too brash at times ! U were only extending an encouraging hand to yr friend...didnt mean to bite yr finger. Apologies.

-ccm-(.....with fingers ready on the ENTER button....)

Fair Dinkum, she'd be apples!

pushing, pressing, doesn't matter lah. that button is going to be depressed anyway.

I dunno which aussie city u r infatuated with, Edwin, but yes, she's a beautiful country, Australia. The best bit is feeling unrestrained because of the vastness of the land. There is much to explore every which way one turns. This summer we are inundated by fat aussie flies....watch out when we wave them away, we do the great australian salute!

Wishing u and all yr readers a HAPPY NEW YEAR...i believe it's gonna be a bitchy one. Woof woof!
